Tough On Fridays
What is the meaning of Tough On Fridays (TOF)? Who are you and why choose the name Tough On Fridays?
“TOF used to mean a band of girls, but now it’s more like a community/family. Just trying to bring the girlies together in a time we need each other most. TOF at its core, is a community of people who work hard during the week and come together to spend their rest time letting loose in a safe space.”
Who inspires your music?
“It’s so obvious and niche but definitely Paramore, No Doubt, Joyce Manor, Basement.”
How did the band meet?
“The band really started when Carly joined. Harmonies and bass were more prominent. Bella then joined later in 2023 creating the holy girly trio lmao.”
Background of each member (who are you, where are you from, why choose music)
“I’m Caleigh. From Georgetown. I chose music because it was an escape from the bullshit I was growing up around.”
“I’m Carly, I play bass and sing and I’m from Round Rock/ Austin. I started music at age 5. I’ve always been super into music and performing but really blossomed after joining my first garage band in high school hahaha.”
“Hi I’m Bella Sera, I started drumming when I was 5 years old and I’m from Richmond, Tx. I moved here to the Austin area to pursue music and get a degree in Audio Engineering. I do think that music chose me more in a way, I’ve always felt like it really understood me, and specifically I love the performance of music and how it affected me so deeply.”
Accomplishments TOF has achieved thus far
“I think the biggest accomplishment that TOF has achieved thus far is the community we’ve built. The record label is obviously awesome, (Shout out Kaye at Golden Robot Records) and we’ve won a few street awards, but the people we’ve met along the way are really what has made everything worth it and keeps us moving forward. We’ve toured, we’ve made friends and people wear our merch out of state. Which to us, is pretty sick.”
Future goals for TOF
“Future goals are sort of all over the place. We want to make more music and maybe someday, Play ACL (Austin City Limits).”
Most memorable moment during TOF (maybe during a show or while writing music)
“Most memorable moment has probably got to be being on tour in 2024. Every moment of that trip was nerve wracking, exciting, hilarious and bonding for sure. Honorable mention was when Bella told all of Austin ‘even though we’re just women we can still be great musicians’ on live television. That was a good one”
Describe TOF to new listeners
“I think our music could be best described as alt/emo rock with a bad ass feminine twist. Think No Doubt meets Paramore with Basement undertones. It’s post/alt rock for the girls! Our live performances have a very special feeling to them, like we’re playing shows but we aren’t performing to people we’re performing with them and I’m hoping that also comes across in our records.”
